Debbie Parhar is Public Relations and Communications specialist located in Vancouver. She has worked with the largest CEOs and corporations in BC and helps them define their communication goals. Realizing the growth in communications online, she directed me to create a website and blog. What a treat it is to work with someone who can create communications plans and strategies! It makes designing significantly easier. Designing Debbie’s website made me re-appreciate the incredible value is simple, clean websites.

Camp Douglas

Always close to my heart, Camp Douglas finally got a redesign. Again, bringing in the power of social media, and wordpress, we were able to start leveraging a new online marketing strategy – always a key for non-profit organizations. I was very happy to bring in a vintage yet fun feel to this design. I borrowed some design concepts of the west coast colors with an African-type feel.

Autism Society of BC

The Autism Society of BC deals with families and individuals that suffer with Autism and Aspergers disease. For non-profit organizations like this, where division of labor is between minimal staff and sporadic volunteers, it was important to provide a website that they can easily update. Welcome CMS! Welcome WordPress. This website started as a re-skin project but as the usability of wordpress was a reality, the design turned into this slick, clean layout.

41st And Home

41st and Home is an emerging indie band in Vancouver, B.C. As a finalist for the Peak Performance Project, they were in need of a website to present their style and uniqueness. I created this wordpress blog for them that is easy for them to update. And with all independent musicians, it is very important to present their newest music clearly for online sales (via iTunes and CDBaby).

Direct Impact Media

Direct Impact Media is event production company located in Vancouver, BC which specialize in creating unique event experiences using video and multimedia. Their design and brand were already quite good and well established but DIM ran into a similar that most companies do: a website not in a CMS and to much flash. So the goal was to tweak their brand to give them a new look, and to put their website into WordPress.

TELUS Day of Service 2010

TELUS Day of Service is a national initiative to encourage TELUS employees to give back to their community. On May 29, 2010, 30,000 volunteers from TELUS signed up to various charitable organizations and donated over 100,000 volunteer hours on that day. This website was created as a picture book of sorts, to show what happened that day, and hopeful show that the spirit of corporate community investment.

Orquidea

Orquidea is a fashion boutique nestled in the trendy Dunderave area of West Vancouver, B.C. Their motto is Modern Fashion…Timeless Style which is the direction given for this website’s design. Or decision was to create something modern and clean that caters to the modern woman. We coordianated with her instore brands such as Blacky Dress, Cheri Milaney, and Sara Pacini, and created a unique gallery of fashion and design that are in season.

This WordPress design mimics many high-end fashion and clothing brands but keeps the user interface easy enough for the Maureen to update her content in the ever changing fashion retail market.

Coke – 2010 Olympic Torch Relay

I provided this design to my good friends at Sixty4Media who provide social media solutions for companies that want to engage with their customer better.

Coca-Cola is an official sponsor of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games torch run and as such, they were in need of a social media newsroom. The goal of the newsroom, built on WordPress, is to bring together images, videos, news releases and updates about the run in a central and branded location. We were able to provide a design, theme, and two full sites (in French and English) using WordPress. It was a real treat to work on this project as we watch the countdown to the Games.

Camp Kintail

Camp Kintail is a Presbyterian summer camp for kids located on the shores of Lake Heron in Ontario, Canada. Summer camps, like so many non-profit organizations, need to attract kids, young leaders, and donations on a limited budget. But one Camp Kintail’s strengths is their highly motivated alumni, and volunteers, not to mention a very-engaged leadership. So the strategy for their website was to create a robust usable website that’s easy to update by the Camp Kintail director (Theresa MacDonald-Lee) and her team.

This is where WordPress really shines. I was able to use the free tools already available on the internet that Camp Kintail was currently using such as Flickr and Blogger. With WordPress’ vast plug-in library, I was able to make it easy for Camp Kintail to make changes and updates to their website without a large learning curve. I think it’s important to not complicate your clients, but make their life easier! Hopefully, as the Camp Kintail website becomes a stronger marketing and communications tool, the value of having a customizable interface, will be an asset to their growth.

Robert Wilson Music

Robert Wilson is a Canadian singer-songwriter in Vancouver, BC. He has released 3 albums full of highly personal songs range from sweetly quiet to playfully upbeat. Robert has established himself as one of Vancouver’s most engaging live performers, and has shared live shows Aimee Mann, Shelby Lynn, Jason Mraz, Dan Bern, eighties soft rockers Air Supply and The Brothers Creeggan (The Barenaked Ladies), to name just a few.

On the eve of the release of his third studio release “Lovers One – Haters Zero”, Robert Wilson needed a new website which more closely aligns with the look and feel of this album art. So his website was inspired by a 70′s ‘Saul Bass’ design mixed with a west coast flavor. WordPress was used to help Robert Wilson connect and communicate with his fans pulling in Flickr, YouTube, and blogging to make his website come alive.
